Its surprising what stuff one comes around when one is, well, cleaning! Whether the cleaning ritual is of your room, your diaries or your inbox, I always come across stuff that makes me go either what on earth were you thinking! or something like Remember when I used to be that stupid!
well, I came across this today, and if I remember correctly I wrote this while I was either a senior in school or a freshman after receiving news about a school-mate’s accidental death. It certainly doesnt deserve any merit, but after all these years, its somewhat interesting to come across this
In the dead of the night
Amidst the silence of the leaves and ashes of the eve
Lstening to the sounds of click beetles
Humming along with the noisy crickets
Mourning for many a moth’s demise
Shadowed by a veiled, hushed darkness
I stay awake and write this poem
Fumbling wid letters, words, emotions
As rusty as we’ ve grown to be
With vain tries to re-kindle that lost fire
With loads of gruesome effort
My head a jumble of dancing figures….shapes…
Dazed!!
Still I stay awake and write this poem
Listen the sounds of the distant bells?
The merry bells of a wedding…
Ringing leagues away.
The muffled laughter of merry comrades
A slumber party maybe?
While you are annoyed by the bored yawns of a younger sibling
Too much life in those young limbs to rest..
And another one gets ready to meet the end
To bite the dust and be the dust
While I stay awake and write this poem.
once upon a time we were all poetic teen-agers and then we realized what we couldnt do..
Don’t lie. I have already read this poem in another webstite.
lol .. anonymous is right !! i have seen this poem too in another website too .. can’t believe how people can copy other people work and attach their name with it.

An amazing writer
Having gone through your profile, despite the age difference, I MUST say that I haven’t seen and haven’t been to any profile like that. It’s amazing. It’s awesome…Take it as compliment or praise or whatever but while surfing your wordpress.com site, I came across some mind boggling and yet thought provoking ideas (though I don’t have time as I m preparing for my CPA exams and would be off to US soon)…
While discussing FAIZ sahib in SUMMER RAIN you mentioned excerpts from “Nuskha hai wafa” which bring tears in my eyes and reminds me of my hey days, when in 1993 -94 with few other innocent young men from my college in Karachi, we used to talk over cup of tea about bringing revolution and revolutionary changes in composition of rich and poor in my beloved society, changing the way people think, social justice, eradication of religious intolerance, equity and what not.ohhhhhhhhhh….I was labeled as “surkha” (communist) due to my outspoken ideas…Was a successful debater and yet an effective person too………….
Ehde Peeri shabab ki baatayn
Aisi jaisi KHAWAB ki battayn
Your piece on Religion depicts the hypocrisy “Munafaqat” of our society. Believe me I have come to conclude that if you wanna flourish in our (Pakistani) society IMMMMMEDIATELY STOPPPPPPPPPPPPP THINKING. A SOCIETY composed of religious bigots, corrupt Generals and greedy MULLLLLAHHH would not give u anything. Treatment of Noble prize winner…shameful for whole society. Treatment of Faiz, Edhi and Dr. Adeebul Hassan Rizvi..Killing of people just cozThese all are reflection.
….Stagnation of thoughts is something which people take pride on and intellectually constipated people with only material wealth are treated as THE SUCCESFUL people.
So much to share and so much to talk. But still I am optimistic about my country and society in general. I am hopeful as faiz sahib once said .
Hum kay majboore wafa hayn par a jane jahan
Apnay ushhaq say aisay bhi koi karta hai
Tari mahfil ko khuda rakhay abad tak qaim
Ham to mahman hay gharee bhar kay
Would only request you to stay in touch and continue sharing some thoughts
Allah karay zora Kalam aur ziada….
